Modernism

This is a cool website about Modernism in home items through America and Europe that I found researching the period.

And I found an interesting site... not interesting as in I dig it, but interesting as in I can see why you would take this view point. This post is a proclamation that Nietzsche was a Satanist.

Mormon's and Media

What can I say about this? I'm Mormon and I support what the prophets say. I believe in a living prophet and certain non-fundamental things moving and changing as the times do. Media is an obvious example.

Actually, I don't feel like waxing theoretical or eloquent with all this... "Behold, the ascriptures are before you; if ye will bwrest (link) them it shall be to your own destruction" (Alma 13:20). I've said plenty already about how I feel the computing world can be dangerous. Surely, the list of dangers is not exhausted, but I haven't the mental desire to go there...

What I do think is why do we act like such passive creatures? Are we not Children of God with the Holy Spirit to guide us? Have we not been commanded to Ask and Receive all things by His hand? Why do we then talk so much about how things "affect us?" I got it, I totally understand, Artaud, everything affects you whether you want it to or not, whether you meant to be influenced or not, whether you agree with it or not. You are corrupted (or improved) by the very association with the thing.

But, why consign to be influenced? Especially with the concepts of this class, why not be CREATORS. Now the whole missionary thing - the Skyping - the online converting - that's clever, that's fun, but that's obvious!!! But what about this concept that media just it that way... Unless someone goes out to CREATE worthwhile media that can change the experience we must be influenced by. What about the way we interact with the digital world - and the horrible things it can bring - Why just be on the defensive trying to avoid it? My friend Burke is often quoted with this, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" (link). Wikepedia claims it was JFK's slogan - either way it is true.

A list could easily continue about things that we should do - I have Grandiose visions of changing films and media - and with God as my guide this world will be better for my children and better prepared to meet Him when I die. What are you going to do? What is your calling? What is your cross? Where can you fall in on the line to fight?

But... like I said... I haven't got much I want to say on all this.

3 ideas

I have 3 Ideas I'm interested in for the Final Project...

How do I do that?

A few of my main desires of this class were to develop a community of like minded people who want to do what I want to do... My problem is that I still haven't a clue on how to do that!

God is a highly evolved robot

"Then I found this and though... perfect... eventually we'll all be Cyborgs that cannot die..."

Earth in the Beginning - Revised and Enlarged Edition [Hardcover]

Why do I care!!!?

Did you know that there was an ancient computation machine made completely of barely, hay, bees, and a rock? Not really. But there are some really cool things that built up to creating a computer. Like, ethnic children in the Dell lab that brought me this lovely machine - by the way, Santa's elves could learn a thing or two from those little workers.

Somebody tell me why my Shelfari Widget Sucks!!!

This post will definitely get bigger... I followed the steps (3 times) and created a nice bookshelf to add to my blog... This was followed by creating just a list for my blog... I've moved and replaced the widget(s) but I can't seem to get anything to work... What's the deal?

Furthermore, I want to add a list of movies I love - like through netflix... why is that so hard to find? You think it would be a staple widget by now... and How about a music player that plays my favorite music? like from pandora...

Why I hate Digital Civilization

I wish I were a more reasonable person... I think social networking is a great idea - I really do... I'm like the reverse of Mark Twain when he said, “It's easy to quit smoking. I've done it hundreds of times.” Digital connection is awesome and easy. I've started it hundreds of times... but I can never keep up!

Three LONG reasons why I hate digital civilization. (reader beware!)
